FIRESIDE CHAT:
Lessons learnt from the 2007 Estonian cyber attack and how Estonia went on to become global digital transformation leaders despite the attack
May 2007 the cyber attacks almost shut down Estonia’s government. In response to the attack, a series of initiatives were launched to strengthen national infrastructures and to improve communications between national and multinational organizations in the event of another cyber attack. Although 2007’s technology may seem outdated, Estonia has taken the lessons learnt from the attack and created a series of principles that underpin their digital strategy and cyber response still to this day. Lauri Almann was involved directly in dealing with the incident and its aftermath and will be sharing key insights on:
- The public relations response and how to manage this effectively
- How public and private sector can work together to solve these challenges
- How investment in technology was, and still is, critical
- Estonia’s unique approach to cyber training and the different layers organisations must focus on
